Entertainment Venues In Peru
The country of Peru is a wonderful choice for a vacation destination and there are a number of interesting locations to explore. Obviously the great draw for many travelers is the diversity of country side and the amazing history that abounds. There is an abundance of outdoor activities for you to partake in, but if you are looking for something a little different than this is the article for you. The capital of Lima is a wonderfully vibrant place to start such an adventure and whilst there any visitor will not find it hard to keep busy and be entertained. Sometimes it is fun to go outside the box a little and try venues that are not necessarily main stream and Lima can deliver in that department.
Out of The Ordinary
Going to the theatre is often something we do when we want a special treat and unless we feel knowledgeable or are already an enthusiast we could easily be intimidated. However the Microteatro in Lima is a wonderfully different experience of the theatrical kind and may be worth checking out.
Often the time commitment required to attend the theatre is way too constraining but this little venue is far from that. Little is really the operative word here as the performances take place in a 15-sq-meter room for an audience of 15 people and the performances last all of 15 minutes! Different directors show case their work each week with a rotating cast of actors. The added bonus of a lively bar makes this a wonderfully unique experience.
A night out in Lima would not be complete without a visit to an authentic latin venue. El Dragon is a great place to see live music or hear the latest DJ’s spin the popular sounds of soul, funk and latin rock. Keeping with the musical theme Ekeko Bar is a quirky little spot that hosts great cover bands on certain nights, when you can expect to pay a modest cover charge. In addition to live music this great little spot hosts poetry readings so be sure to check them out when you’re in town and see who is being featured. At the same time you will find the bar’s location convenient for visiting some great restaurants centered around this part of town.
Live Like the Locals
To sample a taste of authentic Peruvian fare head down to Restaurante Turistico Canana where you can sample the delectable delights of the coastal cuisine. Live music seems to be a recurring feature of the best night spots in Peru and if you love to dance or just enjoy the sounds as much as the locals do this place will be to your liking.
Thursday through Saturday local dancers and musicians perform so this is the best time to visit if you can but be prepared for a late night as things don’t get started till around 11pm! If you are a night owl then one of the most popupar venues is Ukuku’s situated in Cuzco. You will be surrounded by enthusiastic locals as well as tourists enjoying the lively combination of western and latin music. Often playing host to live bands this night spot is always packed after midnight so be prepared for that.
The nightlife in Peru is one for the books and is hard to beat! But perhaps you are like me and want something a little more quiet. Then be sure to check out one of these cute cafes, while you are here you can enjoy a cup of delicious coffee, check the news, maybe even catch the latest series episodes or have some games. This way you can conserve your energy should you want to go out later.
If you have the stamina to keep up with the exuberant locals then for sure a visit to Dóminos Megadisco should be on the cards. The venue offers a multi level experience with both dancing and karaoke on offer. Here you can experience the addictive sounds of salsa and the amazing blend of dancehall, hip-hop and Puerto Rican bomba, that is known as reggaetón, and just good old fashioned rock! Stamina will be required to keep up with this crowd and make sure you’re not too distracted by the music to not keep an eye on the freely flowing cuba libra, the rum and cola mix that is served by the jug.
If this all sounds just a little too exhausting then a visit to Kamikase will be more suitable. This old bar with a far more intimate atmosphere again centers largely on the musical entertainment whilst you enjoy your drink. Here you can expect to be entertained by a wide selection of genres from salsa to traditional folk music and sometimes this comes in the form of a live show that will typically start up later in the evening, perhaps around 11pm. A good happy hour from 8pm till 10pm makes an affordable and entertaining evening for all.
Finally in a similar vein La Choza del Candamo is a more relaxed club, bar combo that also has a restaurant. Situated out of the town along the airport road this venue will give you the opportunity to sample local food from all the regions of Peru, mountain, coastal and jungle. Whilst enjoying this fine local fare you can sit back and take in the live music that is again a great feature of the Peruvian experience. All in all there is plenty by way of night life to entertain the traveller eager to find a taste of Peru.
